Water Damage Do's:

• Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping ceramic or vinyl floors. Wipe as much excess water as possible from wood furniture after removal of lamps and table-top items.

• Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions for even drying (check for bleeding of colour)

• Place aluminium foil, or plastic bags between furniture legs and wet carpeting

• Remove oriental rugs or other coloured rugs from wet carpeting

• Open drawers and cabinet doors for complete drying (Do not force open)

• Remove valuable paintings and art objects to a safe place

• Open suitcases and luggage to dry, in sunlight if possible

• Punch small holes in sagging ceilings to relieve trapped water (Don't forget to place pans underneath) If possible, keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging

• Vacate the areas affected by sewage backflows

Water Damage Do Not's:

• Leave wet fabrics in place; dry as soon as possible

• Leave books, magazines or other coloured items on wet carpets or floors

• Use your household vacuum to remove water

• Use TV's or other appliances while standing on wet carpets or floors, especially not on wet concrete floors

• Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet

• Put newspaper or coloured towels on the carpet

• Attempt to cut carpet seams or lift carpet
